As the demands of the digital age evolve rapidly, the concept of digital citizenship has become more critical than ever. In this context, the “Digital Citizenship Education Game Development Workshop,” held in Kızılcahamam and attended by our team, marked a significant step in strengthening the bridge between education and technology.
This three-day workshop, supported by the Ministry of National Education and the Council of Europe, brought together educators, academics, and game developers to create scenarios and designs for a web-based game that would convey digital citizenship concepts in a fun and educational way. Throughout the workshop, intensive work was carried out on mission design, storytelling, game mechanics, and user experience.
Key Highlights of the Workshop
- Blending Pedagogical Content with Entertainment: Educational materials covering key digital citizenship topics such as digital safety, online ethics, and media literacy were integrated into the game with an engaging story and mission structure.
- Character and Story Design: The game features the journey of a child robot equipped with empathy skills, guiding players through a futuristic digital world. Set in a fictional city, this adventure aims to help players make informed decisions in the digital realm.
- Technical and Design Choices: The game’s technical foundation is built on the Unity game engine. The visual style, described as “futuristic” and “stylized,” is carefully chosen to captivate the target audience while aligning with the game’s educational goals.
